From Two Dimensions to Multidimensions: A Mechanistic Model to Support Deliberate CPD Development, Coordination, and Evaluation
Pain Continuing Professional Development in Canada - Fostering a Vibrant, Dynamic and Sustainable Ecosystem
Overview
Pain-related continuing professional development (CPD) programs are growing in number, reach, and maturity across Canada, aiming to improve outcomes like effective opioid prescribing and access to quality care. However, challenges remain in reach, sustainability, and evaluation. Through a multistage process—including an environmental scan, individual consultations with program leaders, and large group deliberative dialogues—we aimed to understand the existing landscape of Canadian pain CPD programs. We identified 30 active pain CPD programs and interviewed 27 leaders, revealing a strong need for greater collaboration. To address this, we developed seven targeted recommendations to strengthen connections among programs, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders, fostering a more sustainable and impactful CPD ecosystem in Canada. The findings are available in multiple formats, including the comprehensive Full Report, a one-page Overview, and a four-page Executive Summary.
