Within the Subject Matter Research Lab, an on-going clinical trial is investigating the effectiveness and implementation of Sudarshan Kriya Yoga (SKY), a breathing-based meditation intervention for Canadian Veterans living with PTSD. To support the development of a community of practice and learning around the SKY-PTSD research study, we are hosting monthly webinars. This webinar will discuss using mindfulness yoga to help manage stress and pain experienced by Veterans. Panellist, Dr. Eleni Hapidou, a psychologist with the Michael G. DeGroote Pain Clinic who works directly with Veterans experiencing chronic pain has been using Yoga for over 10 years to help her patients. Dr. Hapidou discusses past and current pain management programs for Veterans living with PTSD, research and evidence that supports mindfulness for pain management and stress for Veterans living with trauma, including a live demonstration.
This webinar will explore the impacts of PTSD on veterans’ children with panelists Kayla Fournier, Polliann Maher & Dr. Helena Hawryluk. Dr. Helena Hawryluk is the director of the Warrior Kids Program; Polliann Maher is a military spouse & ATLAS Institute for Veterans and Families Lived Experience Lead for Families; and Kayla Fournier is a military spouse and child who has worked within MFRCs.
This webinar will explore how Sudarshan-Kriya Yoga (SKY), a breathing based meditation, reduces PTSD symptoms in Veterans. An introduction to SKY will be presented by Spencer Delisle, a SKY resilience instructor and Vice president of the International Association for Human Values (IAHV) and Belén Montefalcone, the project manager and a SKY resilience instructor for the IAHV. First-hand personal experiences with SKY are shared by Steve Stokan, a retired police Constable, SKY Resilience Graduate and Volunteer and Mental Health for First Responders Community of Practice Member, and Summer Rogowski, an Army Veteran, Veteran Community Organizer, and Small business owner of a firearms training company.
